Inexpensive, Beneficial, Multi-Purpose: Apple Cider Vinegar!!!

Writing about apple cider vinegar was triggered by a conversation I had with a friend, concerning … New Year’s Resolutions/Goals.

Many of us make the decision to start healthier habits and so it happened that from drinking pure water on an empty stomach, our conversation lead  to other beneficial, inexpensive ways to improve our overall health.

I remembered the many benefits of  ORGANIC apple cider vinegar, and decided to refresh my basic knowledge before sharing with you.

I read the pertinent articles on http://www.WebMd.com, http://www.authoritynutrition.com/6-proven-benefits-of-apple-cider-vinegar, http://www.doctoroz.com and what follows is  a summary of the known qualities of apple cider vinegar.

External use:

The main ingredient is acetic acid, an antimicrobial, which could kill certain types of bacteria. It has been used for cleaning as well as treating nail fungus, lice, warts and ear infections, but these usages have not been confirmed by research. However, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine used apple cider vinegar to clean wounds.

The use of apple cider vinegar to lower blood sugar levels, meaning it benefits people suffering from diabetes, is backed up by research (authoritynutrition.com, webmd.com)

In his article, 7 Surprising Ways To Use Apple Cider Vinegar, Dr. Ozz, mentions the following  usages of organic apple cider vinegar: as an antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal. It could help remove warts, remove dandruff (mix apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle in equal parts, use on hair.)

Internal uses:

Sore throats and heals heartburn.

Recipe for  sore throats: Mix 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon cayenne pepper, three teaspoons clover honey. Mix everything in a full glass of warm water and use for sore throats.

It balances the digestive system and aids digestion. Drink one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass full of water (may add a teaspoon of honey for taste). Drink before meals, as it helps break down foods.

Other uses of apple cider vinegar:

As a skin cleanser, and to help with acne conditions (dilute in water) It is said to restore the pH  levels of the skin.

Heals sunburn (add two cups to your bath to neutralize the burn, and soak for ten minutes.)

According to WebMd, the use of apple cider vinegar as a weight loss agent has only been backed by a small research in which the group of obese subjects who used apple cider vinegar, lost slightly more weight than the group which didn’t use it, but they gained it all back when the study stopped.

I am wondering, if they CONTINUED to use the apple cider vinegar, and not stop at the end of the study, would the loss been maintained or improved.

It is a personal decision, but I will start drinking every morning, on an empty stomach,  a glass of pure water  at room temperature, in which I mix a teaspoonful of organic apple cider vinegar. If I feel better, I will continue. If not, I will stop.

As with everything else, our bodies are unique and what is good for one is not good for another. As a rule, consult your health care professional before starting to use any  substance, no matter how natural. Always, use YOUR OWN COMMON SENSE AND STOP IF IT DISAGREES WITH YOU.
